*Cht*

*Cht* or *Chk*. It's a universal word / sound / expression. Was on the tram that day and heard an Australian lady making the "cht" sound when she dropped her packet of ciggys. She was a tad annoyed that she dropped something. My superhuman all-powerful highly intelligent mind was suddenly given a boost in the brainwave, that "cht" is universal. And there are a host of other reactions that all humans have as well.

Did God build in us this natural expression or is it really something dat we pick up from ppl around us as we grow up? Let's have a look at some of the more popular and universal ones.. cutting across all ages and race..

1) *cht* / *chk* :
We use it when we're irritated with something or someone.

Like say we missed the tram by 10 seconds - we'll say, "*cht*.. should've come out earlier laaaa!". Or when a guy is trying to tease a girl by 'stealing' her eraser - the girl will go, "*cht*! Gimme back my rubber laaa... please.. *cht* don't like that can or not?"

2) *hmph* (usually wif a !) or *fh* (short and quick thru the nose)
The "yaa.. like i care??!?!" expression.

E.g. - "*hmph*! go lor.. u think u wat?.. u think u very can u go do it urself lah.. dun need me nevermind.. later dun come back n complain." or "*fh*! try to cheat my money? think so ez?"

3) *haih / sigh* or *ffffffhhh* (long and hard, thru the nose as well)
To express disappointment or helplessness.

The girl : "*haih / sigh* my birthday worr.. buy one stem of rose for me only, and the meal doesn't even cost 100 bucks. The car he bought me oso no power-steering one. I donno why I chose him."

The guy : "*fffffhhhhh*... eh ching.. how? I try my best to please her liau la.. buy flower buy car treat 98 dollar meal.. u think she's demanding ar? donno la.. but I really love her leh.. bsides, her dad owns a big company that deals with stuff related to my course.. can get job next time.."

*****************************************

There are many other expressions like "aiya.. wah.. oi.." but these are not universal so I decided not to list them down. So next time just try noticing.. really makes u wonder if these expressions are picked up.. or pre-programmed by God Almighty..
