Once upon a time...
...there was a guy (a hero, a knight, a gentleman, a determined protector) that was looking for a job in a foreign land FAR FAR AWAY. And this is his story.. history.. and His story..
It all began on the evening of July 12th 2004, when this guy was fixing up the wireless router and ADSL router/modem configuration for one of his friends. The modem wasn't set on bridged mode but was running as a router. It's local IP was 192.168.0.1 and was being a gateway for the wireless router. The wireless router was on 192.168.1.1 and it was really strange to have 2 routers running in such a simple home environment. What he did was then to set the modem to bridged mode, and have the wireless router connecting to Internode using PPPoE.
He then mapped the MAC addresses of the various workstations in the house and put a WEP key onto the wireless network. He has a habit of not running DHCP clients on home networks so he ensured the individual workstations have a fixed IP assigned to them. Oh, he also discovered that the Netgear wireless router he was working on had quite a bit of issues with dropping out and firmware upgrades were essential. Netgear can be a pain.
Anyway, back to the story. He got a call at around 5:30pm from a friend of his. His friend told him the conditions of job and asked if he was interested.
The interesting things about the job:
- working as a techie in 2 primary schools (great environment!)
- a total of 24 hours per week, leaves 2 days free - to go for other jobs
- pays ?? dollars per hour before tax + 9% superannuation
- great resume and references in the future, working for public schools and referee are principals
- close to home, can cycle to work, save on metcard fare
- flexible hours, can clock up the hours on other days
- etc.
THE FIRST STEP
He gave the usual "I will think about it" reply and went home to discuss it with some of his friends after a UT session. The next morning he was asking God as to whether he should go for the job, as He really wanted a confirmation from God that everything was in the Almighty's hands. He really liked the prospect of getting that job over another one he was waiting for (refer to FLASHBACK SCENE below). He then felt that he should SMS his friend to say "I'll give it a shot". He felt the peace but yet there was still no confirmation. But he had no idea what would be coming ahead..
*FLASHBACK SCENE*
Just about a month from then, our hero went for an interview with a computer retail outlet. He was given the thumbs up and was asked to just wait for the call to hire him. So he waited and waited, with no reply from the company. Throughout that period he was wondering if he would accept the job when it was offered, he wasn't exactly sure. Although he didn't have any other job offers and desperately needed one, he toyed with the idea of not accepting the job when the time comes, he wasn't at peace with it. What if there's a better one out there? Still he waited..
THE MIRACLE
After he SMSed his friend at 10am, he anxiously waited to see what the outcome would be. At 12pm he got a call on his mobile. Guess who? The computer store.. asking him to start work the following Monday. All that went thru his mind at that moment was "Oh God, You are never too late nor too early!" He told the computer store that he'll let them know if he wants the job. The catch - if the computer company called a day early or his friend called a day late, he wouldn't have had the opportunity to go for the primary schools.
The timing really was mind-blowing to him. No one could've engineered it but God Himself. Jobs that he applied for had no reply, the job he didn't apply for was offered. The heavenly Father knows all, sees all, cares for all. When he stepped out of the job application line, He stepped in. The young man ran out of resources, He ran in. All glory to the Great One.
To cut the long story short, he got the job with the schools and is now sharing his story, history and His story with you from his workplace.. and would love to tell you more if you asked him.
