The loss of hope...
After going thru a year of learning and discovery, it has occurred to me how important hope is in the life of a person. It is one of those things that will drive us, keep us going, make us smile, help us rest.
In a job situation, when you have no hope that you'll find a job somewhere out there.. you'll feel defeated and you won't bother doing your best.
In your studies, if you have no hope that you'll still be able to pass your paper even though you haven't done enough preparation.. you'll feel like a failure even before you sit for your paper. How in the world can you ever really do your best when you don't even see that 1% chance of passing?
In your love life, if you have no hope that one day you're gonna marry the person how are you gonna give him/her your all in the commitment? You'll share a relationship where confidence in each other is always at a low.
In a breakup if you have no hope that you'll meet another person that will eventually be God's gift to you as a spouse, you'll never move on and live life as a single to the fullest.
In your ministry if you have no hope that the little things you do with all your heart will touch someone and make them smile, you'll do it because it's a job. You'll feel like if you don't serve, God won't love you. God loves you for who you are now, not bcos He sees the potential in you.
Faith, hope and love. The greatest of this is love. Never in the Bible did it mention that faith and hope is of no importance.. but we tend to neglect them.
Having said that, I believe faith and hope should be placed on the right thing. In our case, the right Person. God is love. God is love not becos of it is an action He is capable of carrying out. It is something He cannot help but do bcos it is His unchangeable character.. whether He likes it or not! Putting our faith and hope in the right love pulls everything together, which is why love is the greatest. It's so easy especially in a relationship to put so much hope in the other person, to a point where they dictate who you are as a person, not God. You start to measure how good you are as a human being based on what your partner thinks of you. Let God have the final say on your life k?
Imagine how different it'd be - your job, your studies, your relationships, your ministry and your future, everything resting solely on the faith and hope in a God of love. Be careful to guard our hearts against the temptation to feel defeated, to give up hope in our God of love. That is the greatest temptation ever - not power, money or sex.
I had to struggle with dpression bcos I struggled with God. My thoughts were "How can He put me thru so much if He loves me? Where did I go wrong? I've been short-changed! What is He trying to do with my life? My years of being faithful to Him.. it's all wasted! There's no point in living anymore, cos when all is said and done I'm still a loser!" It's only when I decided to submit and put my hope in Him and His authority did I receive the healing that comes from being UNDER His authority. He restores, this year has been a living testimony of His restoration for me.
There's always hope in everything situation cos we have a God of faith, HOPE and love.
